Aiming High For Disabled Children

Aiming High for Disabled Children Northamptonshire is a campaign to support families with disabled children. It is estimated that there are over 3,000 disabled children and young people living in Northamptonshire. Aiming High for Disabled Children has been transforming services for families with disabled children in Northamptonshire since 2008, by providing more services that are easier to access and including disabled children and young people in mainstream services wherever suitable.

CAN

CAN YP Team is the specialist substance misuse service for young people in Northamptonshire. We are funded by Northants Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) This document has been designed to assist CAN staff and other professionals to develop good working relationships in the interest of young people. It sets out the services offered by CAN Young People's Team and provides a framework within which services can operate effectively. It offers information relating to substance misuse to enable professional working with young people feel more confident in engaging them with this issue. The document also includes advice on making referrals to CAN and what you should expect from that process.

Counselling Directory

Search for a counsellor or psychotherapist near you. The website also contains a number of sections on emotional disorders (types of distress section) and provides some useful statistics. Every counsellor on the site who has submitted their profile has either sent a copy of their qualifications and insurance cover to us, or is registered with a professional body online with recognised codes of ethics and practice, this way we can be assured of their professionalism. If you're in need of support, search our network to be connected with a professional counsellor. There is a charge for counselling services.

Crossroads

Young Carers Not sure if you are a young carer or not? Do any of the following apply to you:
 Do chores for a relative, such as cleaning, because they are unable to? Have a relative, including siblings, who are disabled, ill or injured, meaning that you have to care extra for them? Live with a relative who is either an alcoholic or a drug user? Help look after someone which means that you can't spend time with your friends or get your homework doneIf any of these apply then you could be a young carer. There are thousands of young carers in the UK, so if you are a young carer or want to learn more please visit a special website just for young carers www.youngcarers.net which is run by the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. DIAL information and advice services are based throughout the UK and provide information and advice to disabled people and others on all aspects of living with a disability. FACT - Northamptonshire

FACT (Families of Aspergers Children Together) Northamptonshire is a parent support group for the families of children and young adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Asperger syndrome. There are two branches of FACT Northants Kettering and Northampton. FACT has been formed by a group of parents with the experience of looking after a child with an ASD, whose aim is to offer support and supply information and facts to other parents and carers with an interest in ASD and Asperger syndrome.

Guide Post Trust

Without active help and support, children with learning disabilities all too often become isolated and alone. This is especially the case for children with severe, multiple and profound disabilities who are most at risk of being socially excluded. That is why Guideposts has launched a holiday activity scheme for children with learning disabilities between the ages of three to eighteen. For children with degenerative illnesses, regular daily activities, especially swimming, help to ease their physical conditions and enable them to retain their physical skills for as long as possible. The project also provides increased respite to parents and carers, and enables parents to spend more time with other siblings.

Northamptonshire Dyslexia Association

The Northamptonshire Dyslexia Association (NDA) is a local Dyslexia Association based in Northampton serving Northamptonshire. Our aim is to support the needs of dyslexic children and young people in the education sector and adults in the workplace. We offer advice and guidance to parents, partners and friends of dyslexics. We also work closely with a number of local employers to raise awareness of dyslexia within the world of work. The NDA is affiliated to the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) and forms part of a network of almost 100 local Dyslexia Associations throughout the UK. We work closely in partnership with the BDA. Northamptonshire Link

Northamptonshire LINk is a group of individuals and community groups who work together to improve Northamptonshire's health and social care services (such as hospitals, care homes and GPs). It is responsible for ensuring people's views are heard.

Northants Dyspraxia Group

The aim of the group is to provide a source of information and support in relation to Dyspraxia/DCD for people in Northamptonshire. This will cover many topics including: Education - SEN and Statementing; Health Services - Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, etc; Suggested Activities; Charities that may be able to provide input and support; Useful products and Other web based information and groups We are a group of like-minded parents with children who have Dyspraxia /DCD. Our experiences of life with Dyspraxia for children of all ages and stages provides us with first hand knowledge of the issues and challenges you may be facing. We hope that with the development of this group and its website, we can share our knowledge and improve the understanding of Dyspraxia in the wider community.

South Northants Disability Sports Club

SOUTH NORTHANTS DISABILITY SPORTS CLUB Meets 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month at Towcester Centre for Leisure 3pm - 4pm Sports Hall 4pm - 5pm Swimming Pool Cost per session is £3 per member or £6 family ticket. Activities include: Archery, Football, Badminton, Boccia, Dance, Basketball, Swimming. Open to all children and adults with a disability. Special Needs Index

What is the Special Needs Index? The Special Needs Index (SNIX) is an electronic database of information about children aged from birth to nineteen years who have physical, learning or sensory impairments. The Children Act 1989 requires local authorities to maintain one. All information about disabled children is supplied voluntarily by parents/carers and no child is included on the database without parental consent.
