National Association for Mental Health

Run a helpline offering help on a range of mental health issues. They provide training, information and an advocacy service for all aspects of mental health issues.

National Deaf-Blind and Rubella Association

Sense is the leading national charity that supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind. We provide expert advice and information as well as specialist services to deafblind people, their families, carers and the professionals who work with them. We also support people who have sensory impairments with additional disabilities.

National Head Injuries Association (Headway)

Provides help, information and support to people over 18 years of age, with head injuries and their families and carers.

National Meningitis Trust

Offer emotional and practical support through 24 hour support line, counselling, financial grants, home visits and community help groups.

National Society for Children and Family Contact

The NSCFC believes that continuing contact with a child's extended family is vital when parents break up. They believe it's important for a child's balanced development, and for fostering important family contacts. They offer free support and advice to all those in need, and actively promote mediation to break cycles of animosity caused by separation or divorce and work to ensure that welfare organisations and the courts serve the best interests of the child.

Northamptonshire Dyslexia Association

The Northamptonshire Dyslexia Association (NDA) is a local Dyslexia Association based in Northampton serving Northamptonshire. Our aim is to support the needs of dyslexic children and young people in the education sector and adults in the workplace. We offer advice and guidance to parents, partners and friends of dyslexics. We also work closely with a number of local employers to raise awareness of dyslexia within the world of work. The NDA is affiliated to the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) and forms part of a network of almost 100 local Dyslexia Associations throughout the UK. We work closely in partnership with the BDA. Northamptonshire Link

Northamptonshire LINk is a group of individuals and community groups who work together to improve Northamptonshire's health and social care services (such as hospitals, care homes and GPs). It is responsible for ensuring people's views are heard.

Northants Dyspraxia Group

The aim of the group is to provide a source of information and support in relation to Dyspraxia/DCD for people in Northamptonshire. This will cover many topics including: Education - SEN and Statementing; Health Services - Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, etc; Suggested Activities; Charities that may be able to provide input and support; Useful products and Other web based information and groups We are a group of like-minded parents with children who have Dyspraxia /DCD. Our experiences of life with Dyspraxia for children of all ages and stages provides us with first hand knowledge of the issues and challenges you may be facing. We hope that with the development of this group and its website, we can share our knowledge and improve the understanding of Dyspraxia in the wider community.

Office for Advice, Assistance, Support and Information on Special needs

OAASIS offers advice and information on diagnosis, Special Educational Needs (SEN) support, parental support groups, and statutory assessment. They also offer support in all aspects of SEN.

Parent to Parent Service

P2P is a confidential telephone support service run by the National Autistic Society for parents or carers of and adult or child who is on the autistic spectrum. The service is provided by volunteer parents who themselves have a child on the autistic spectrum. The parent volunteers have a wealth of experience, knowledge and insight and can talk through any issues, problems or feelings parents are experiencing. Call freephone number 0800 9520 520 at any time and leave a message. A volunteer will then call back at a convenient time for them as soon as possible.

Pathalogical Demand Avoidance Syndrome

Pathological Demand Avoidance syndrome (PDA) is a pervasive developmental disorder. PDA is related to, but separate from, what is currently termed the autistic spectrum, namely autism and Asperger syndrome. Individuals with PDA are typically socially manipulative with people, and are thus superficially socially skilled, which sets them apart from autism and Asperger syndrome.

Progress Magazine provides an interesting source of information for anyone undergoing a process of transition. It gives information on a variety of topics such as; education, employment, money, mobility and legal advice to name but a few.

Rathbone

Provide free advice and support to parents of children with SEN. The information and advice will assist parents to gain for their child an education appropirate to their potential. The service is free, confidential and independent. It can also assist parents with writing letters, preparing for meetings and appeals on their child's statement. They also have an Asian advice line.

REMAP

They provide one-off technical aids which help disabled people of all ages to enjoy a better lifestyle. Every aid is given free of charge to the user.

Royal National Institute of the Blind

UK's leading charity helping anyone with a sight problem. Their staff and volunteers work to empower blind and partially sighted people of all ages to remove the barriers they face, as well as preventing sight loss. By influencing policy makers through their campaign work, providing expertise and support services, talking books and a wide range of products and services, as well as encouraging direct involvement of blind and partially people in RNIB's work via their membership scheme.
